Check Into Literacy grant from Verizon
Jenkintown Library received a $25,000 grant from Verizon’s ‘Check Into Literacy’ program.
The funding will be used to implement a reading literacy project entitled, Club 306: A Literacy Program for Emergent Readers. Through the use of books and other materials, and a variety of learning activities, parents will learn important parenting skills, tips & techniques to help young children between the ages of 4 – 8 develop their reading skills.
The ‘Check Into Literacy’ initiative allows Verizon’s landline telephone customers to indicate on their monthly phone bills that they wish to make a $1 tax-deductible donation to promote literacy throughout the United States. Verizon then distributes these donations to local literacy organizations.
“A dollar a month may not seem like much, but it can go a long way toward improving literacy skills in local communities and giving people the opportunity to succeed,” said William B. Petersen, President, Verizon Pennsylvania. “We are delighted that the Jenkintown Library’s program will benefit through the generosity of our customers.”
As Rosalind Lubeck, Director, Jenkintown Library,
stated,” Instilling in our children the love for reading at an early age
has far reaching results for every child as he/she progresses through
school.” “Jenkintown Library is delighted to be a recipient of Verizon’s
‘Check Into Literacy’ grant.
