Kick Off  Event!

Bug Party  @ The Jenkintown Library

Wednesday, June 25 -  7:00PM

The whole family is invited to join us for an evening

of entertainment with Scott Prior. This year's reading theme is "Catch the Reading Bug."

 Scott will showcase his collection of strange and exotic creatures that will fascinate young and old.

 

We will also have many other special summer programs and story-times for children of different ages and
interests.

 

Light Refreshments will be served at the kick off event.

Teen Yoga

This story time is for little ones who are walking through age 3.

  Summer Story & Craft Program: for children from age 4-6

        Thursdays:  July  3, 10, 17, 24, and 31st.
    

             2:00  p.m.

 

Children’s librarian, Bonnie Miller, will present a summer story and craft time for children 4-6 years
 of age.

Book selections will be age appropriate.  A simple craft will follow the stories.

Jenkintown Library will supply the materials for the crafts.

Science in the Summer (2008)

This fun and free summer, science program sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline will feature Genetics

July 21-24   10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. : Children entering 2nd or 3rd grade
                         11:15 a.m. - 12:00 noon: Children entering 4th - 6th grade.

Registration is June 1-7 for Jenkintown Borough residents; June 8-30 for residents and non-residents.

Intermediate Sewing

Six Sessions: July  22, 23, 24, 29, 30, & 31st.
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
4:00 - 5:30 PM

 

Instructor, Vanessa Owens offers this program to introduce guys and gals ages 9-12 to the wonderful world of sewing.

She will teach the skills needed to complete a pair of flannel pajama bottoms using a pattern.

Participant needs to have some experience using a sewing machine.

Registration is required and space is limited.

Jenkintown Library presents:

Miniature Art with Silk Flowers
Thursday, July 24 at 7:00 P.M.

This program is designed for adults and teens who enjoy flowers, nature and craft making.

Joan Maher will help you design your own miniature landscape using silk flowers, picket fences, small birds and other appropriate
objects.

There is a cost of $2.00 for the container. All other materials will be provided by Jenkintown Library.

JEWELRY  MAKING @Jenkintown Library

Four sessions: July 8, 10, 15, & 17
Tuesdays and Thursdays

Time: 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

Yes, you can learn to turn beads and cord into jewelry! Our instructor, Sarah Owens, will show you how to make great jewelry in 4 sessions
on July 8, July 10, July 15, and July 17 from 3:30 PM -5:00 PM. We even provide the materials! This program is for kids ages 8-13.

MAKE YOUR OWN COMIC BOOK @ Jenkintown Library

Two sessions: Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12
Time: 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon

Have you always wanted to make your own comic book? Then this is your opportunity to do so.
If you are between the ages 7 through 12, sign up for this two part program on Friday, July 11th and Saturday, July 12, 10:30 -noon. 
Materials will be provided. Elizabeth Markham, who has had a lot of experience with cartooning, will be our instructor.

Hobby Night for Kids @ Jenkintown Library

Hi. Do you have a hobby and are between the ages of 7 and 12? Are you willing to share with others? Do you collect stamps, make jewelry,
do magic, play chess, play the guitar, ANTHING that is a hobby? Would you be willing to come to Jenkintown Library’s Hobby Night for Kids
on Wednesday, July 16th at 7 PM and share your hobby with everyone else? It will be a fun time with refreshments provided.
Invite your friends and family to come too. We will provide a table for your display if needed.

throw pottery, play the guitar, watch birds, play chess, ANYTHING that is a hobby? We would like you
to come to Jenkintown Library’s Hobby Night for Teens & Adults. Hobby Night will be on Thursday,
July 17th at 7 PM. Refreshments will be served. Invite your family and friends to come too. We will provide
a table for your display if needed.

FAMILY FUN NIGHTS @ Jenkintown Library

 

Join us on Wednesday evenings in July for a variety of great programs for the whole family.
All programs start at 7 PM and refreshments will be served. Because we want to be sure to
have enough materials and food for all, please register at the library or by calling

July 2- PAPER BAG NATURE JOURNAL- Join us and make your own nature journal. Made with grocery
bags with handles, this lets you carry it with you on your nature walks and have a place to put your
specimens. Bring it home and write or draw about your experiences in the journal.

 

July 9- LADY BUG ROCK- Have you heard of rock painting? We will paint a rock as a lady bug that you
can take home to use as a paperweight, garden accent, or gift. We may have a surprise live visitor too.

 

July 16- KIDS HOBBY NIGHT- Come and see all the different hobbies that kids in your neighborhood
have. Maybe you will find one that YOU would want to do too. If you are between 7 and 12 and want
to share your hobby, please let the library know so we can have a spot for you.

  

July 23- The JENKINTOWN LIBRARY SRC PLAYERS present “ANANSI & THE MOSS-COVERED
              ROCK”

They’re back again this year with another play. This one is an African folktale about that tricky spider,
Anansi. After the play, we will all make our own banana split. Yummy!

 

July 30-DOES A CRICKET REALLY HAVE KNOBBY KNEES?- Judy Groben of the Montgomery County
Master Gardener’s Speakers Bureau does a program with live crickets, lots of fun facts, music
instruments (so we sound like crickets), and cricket masks to color.

 


PEER EDITING @ Jenkintown Library

 

Are you a writer? Would you like to discuss your work with others and get feedback? Then come to our
peer editing program on Wednesdays, August 6th and August 13th at 7 PM. Our facilitator, Elizabeth
Markham
, is an experienced peer editor and has written three times for the National Novel Writing Month.
Please bring 3 copies of a short piece or excerpt of a longer piece. It may be fiction or non-fiction. This is an
adult program but mature teens age 16 and up may come.

Join us on Tuesday evenings at 7 PM on June 24, and July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29th. Come to the Jenkintown Library Children’s
Room for a fun storytime based on all the wonderful kid’s shows that will be presented this summer at Keswick Theatre.
Be comfortable and wear your pajamas. One lucky child will win a pair of tickets for the next show at Keswick Theatre.

Create a Bug Contest

Fun for the whole family.  Prizes too!

Pick up a brown bag 'o bug and bring it to the counter. Register at the counter with your name, age and
phone number. You may register either individually if you are age 7 or older or as a family.

EVERYTHING in the bag must be used to make your bug.

You may also use anything you have at home to create your own special bug. This is a recycle bug so
Do Not Use or Buy Anything new. You may purchase glue if you do not already have some at home.

Return your created bug back to Jenkintown Library by July 15 to be placed on display. Winners will
be announced at the Kids Hobby Night scheduled for July 16th.

All Bugs will remain on display until September 1st.


Emotional Freedom Technique: an alternative way to balance your emotions

Taught by Jennifer Merritt, this program is geared for Teens and Adults and will be held on Thursday,
July 31, 7-9 p.m.

Tapping on specific merdian points and exercises for the brain promote clear thinking and emotional freedom.

EFT can be use to help pain relief, trauma, addictions, weight loss, stress, and etc.

Instructor, Jennifer Merritt , is the co-director of Shakti Yoga.

Registration is required.


 

Fraud Broads: Women of Special Interest : a program for teens - adults

Women throughout history have had to endure double standards, attitudes and legislation that have forced them to make decisions that drastically
affected their lives.  Dr. Millie Wintz, presenter, will focus on women who chose to dress as men to pursue unchartered paths.

This fun and fascinating program will be held on Thursday, July 10, 7:00 p.m. in the library's Community Room.
